Nice work, as always! Sonia Rachline's grandfather, the French film director, (whom I knew well) directed Espoir in Spain with Malraux. I attended a showing of it with Boris one time. Pretty special. I can't attach it to this box, but I'll email you a photo Malraux took of Boris during the filming...
Congratulations on your anniversaire. Merci beaucoup for today's éducation. Je promis bientôt, to become à founding member. I enjoy your writings very much. Bon Dimanche.
My thoughts are that if you publicly find the arts on the scale that Malraux did and France still does, you may get artists who conform and are coddled, but there is a large enough margin of error to make room for brave and original art as well. In Canada, where support for the arts is paltry and the public's interest in it verges on nil, the little money that is available creates an appalling conformity and political correctness that would make the average French person vomit.
Love the line
“ Life has become one big game of Texas hold 'em. And we’re all in. And we’re all bluffing.”
Top shelf musings, right up where mom keeps the beurre d’arachide.
